At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami (BBBS Miami), we know the BIG potential of Miami’s young minds. The BBBS Miami’s “Plug & Play” STEM Scholarship Program seeks to ignite that potential, awarding promising young BBBS Miami youth (Littles) and alumni who are pursuing STEM majors, a full or partial scholarship funding toward Miami-based post-secondary institutions, such as Florida Memorial University, Miami Dade College, and Florida International University.

For over 60 years, BBBS Miami has been committed to empowering South Florida’s underserved and at-risk youth. Going beyond the traditional one-to-one mentoring model, BBBS Miami takes a holistic approach, providing a continuum of wrap-around services and support designed to promote potential at every level. With trainings, workshops, activities, presentations and programs centered around key areas that include digital literacy, academic achievement, and providing pathways to successful careers, BBBS Miami has long offered our Littles the tools and support to become their best selves.

The “Plug & Play” STEM Scholarship is an exciting extension to these efforts, helping to cultivate the talent of Miami’s young minds and providing life-changing opportunities to pursue their passions and purpose, retaining South Florida talent. Our Littles will be equipped with the necessary skills, resources, and support, instilled in great part by their mentors and BBBS Miami, to become future leaders in STEM fields. With their growth and success, we help position our beloved city to its higher purpose. By promoting talent that has been forged, fostered, and one day, fulfilled right here in South Florida, the “Plug & Play” Scholarship will help lead Miami toward becoming the international science and technology mecca it is destined to be.

Impact

“From my mentor, I learned the importance of networking. Building connections with people always for more opportunities to be available to you and access to people who can help in the future. Furthermore, I got advice on building a resume and crafting a well-structured essay. Both of these things helped in my application to scholarships and colleges. However, the greatest impact of all was helping me narrow down my top college choices and get accepted with a full-ride scholarship. I can now pursue my passion for robotics…thanks to my mentor. I will forever be grateful!”
